Scooters, Bikes & Trikes

I had the Galaxy for nearly fifteen years and sold it (Ebay) for almost what I paid for it.

When I started cycling again I had a couple of bikes. The first  was a Falcon machine. It weighted a ton but worked. I then found a lightweight bike that had been dumped in Elvaston Castle Country Park when I was a Ranger there. We posted it as ‘found’ on the notice boards but nobody claimed it so I adopted it and after a serious overhaul I rode it for a few years before buying the Dawes Galaxy, a classic tourer which was the closest bike to the Super Lenton with it’s Reynolds 531 tubing etc.

The main difference was that it had gears that worked all the time. Back on the 1950’s only gears that could manage large ratio changes were the very expensive Campagnola parallelogram type. With the others the strain of getting the chain onto a large sprocket tended to bend the arm so after a few changes down a quick service stop was needed.
